Students of DU-affiliated 7 colleges withdraw blockade

The protesting students of seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University withdrew their blockade giving an ultimatum to the DU authorities to press home their one-point demand by 10 pm on Tuesday.

They withdrew the blockade at Nilkhet intersection around 6:45 pm. As a result, vehicular movement returned to normal in the area after around six and a half hours.

Earlier around 12:40 pm, the honors students of a few academic sessions of the seven colleges blocked Nilkhet intersection demanding their promotion to the next session through improvement exams by relaxing CGPA condition.

They said they will announce new programs if their demand is not met by 10 pm today.

According to the DU rule, a student must obtain CGPA 2 in the first year exam, CGPA 2.25 in the second year exam, and CGPA 2.50 in the third year exam to get promoted to the next year respectively.

Due to the rule, many students of the DU-affiliated colleges cannot get promoted to the next year despite passing all subjects and that is why they have been seeking relaxation of that condition.
