Former state minister Redwan jailed for 3 years

A Dhaka court has sentenced former state minister for liberation affairs and the secretary general of Oli Ahmed-led LDP Redwan Ahmed to three years in jail and fined him Tk 50 lakh in a case filed for embezzling Tk 50 lakh of Freedom Fighter Council.  

Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman of Dhaka Special Judge Court-2 passed the order on Monday.

The court also acquitted Freedom Fighter Council Secretary General Shah Alam as allegations brought against him could not be proved. 

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Meer Ahmmed Salam confirmed the matter to Jago News. 

Freedom fighter Md Nurul Islam filed the case against them with Ramna Police Station in Dhaka on February 15, 2007. 

ACC’s Assistant Director Md Abul Hossain submitted a charge sheet against them on October 8, 2007. 

Redwan filed a writ petition with the High Court challenging the legality of filing the case against him. The High Court rejected the writ on October 25, 2010.
