Six sustain burn injuries in Ashulia fire

Six people suffered burn injuries in a fire that originated from a gas cylinder in Ashulia of Savar on the outskirts of capital Dhaka on Saturday night.

The deceased were identified as Md Sadikul, 28, Md Hashem Ali, 40, Sabina Begum, 40, Md Nazrul Islam, 45, Md Mohshin, 27, and Kamala Begum, 50.

The injured were being treated at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital.

One Humayun Kabir said heard the sound of an explosion and found his sister-in-law (brother's wife) and several others burnt at the house of Anwar Hossain in Nayanagar area of Shreepur at night.

Later, he took them to SHNIBPS, he added.

The burn institute resident doctor Md Tariqul Islam said around 45 percent of Hashem Ali's body, 46 percent of Nazrul's body, 50 percent of Sadik's body, 50 percent of Sabina's body, 20 percent of Kamala's body and 10 percent of Mohshin's body were burnt.

Of them, the physical condition of five was critical and one was kept in intensive care, he added.

Pranab Chowdhury, senior station officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence under Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DPEZ), said they assume gas spread from leakage of gas cylinder cap and it increased when it came in contact with fire during cooking.
