Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will hold a rally at the Suhrawardy Udyan on Monday afternoon protesting the alleged attacks on party leaders and activists during Saturday’s sit-in programmes in different parts of the capital.
BNP’s Dhaka city north unit convener Abdus Salam will preside over the event, while Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul will speak as the chief guest.
The party on Sunday evening said the rally would be held in Naya Paltan, but in an amended notice at night, it announced the new venue for the event scheduled to begin at 3pm.
Biplob Kumar Sarker, Joint Commissioner (operations) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, on Sunday night told Jago News that BNP can hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan, but action will be taken if they create obstruction on road and set fire on vehicles.
On Saturday, the leaders and activists of BNP faced police obstructions when they started their sit-in programmes in different parts of the capital. At one stage, they locked into clashes with police.
