Gayeshwar detained after BNP, police clash in Dholaikhal

The leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) locked into a clash with police at Dholaikhal intersection in the capital Dhaka after they started their sit-in programme there around 11:30am on Saturday.

Police fired tear gas at the BNP men to foil their programme. In reply, the party activists hurled brick-chips to the law enforcers.

Later, police detained BNP’s Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy from there around 12pm.

Jafar Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Lalbagh zone) confirmed the matter to Jago News.

BNP on Friday announced that it will hold sit-in programmes at all entry points of Dhaka from 11am to 4pm today.

DMP Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq earlier said BNP and Awami League were not allowed to hold sit-in programmes in the capital on Saturday.
