4 to die for killing one in Sylhet

A Sylhet court has sentenced four people to death in a case filed for killing one Tomjid Ali in 2001.

Judge Abdullah Al Mamun of Sylhet Divisional Special Judge Court passed the order on Monday.  

The death-row convicts are Abdur Rob, Abdur Rahman, Md Fajal Uddin and Md Rois Ali of Isti village in Gowainghat upazila. 

The court also acquitted 11 other accused in the case as no evidence was found against them.

Confirming the matter, Public Prosecutor of the court Md Fakhrul Islam said the miscreants killed Tomjid and dumped his body in haor following an enmity over occupying a canal at Isti village in Gowainghat upazila on August 8, 2001.  

Tomjid’s wife Peyara Begum filed a case against 15 people with Gowainghat Police Station on August 9.
