Nineteen more dengue patients died and 1,792 were hospitalised across the country in the last 24 hours till Wednesday morning which is the highest dengue death in a single day this year.
“During the period, 922 dengue patients were hospitalised in Dhaka city and 870 were admitted to different hospitals outside it,” a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.
With the latest figure, a total of 146 dengue patients died in the country and 25,792 were infected with dengue this year, it said.
So far 20,094 dengue patients were released from hospitals in the country this year.
The country recorded 281 dengue deaths in 2022, the highest on record after the 179 deaths recorded in 2019. Additionally, the DGHS recorded 62,382 dengue cases and 61,971 recoveries last year.
Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne illness that occurs in tropical and subtropical areas of the world. Outbreaks of the disease are usually seasonal, peaking during and after the rainy season.
