Bangladesh Women's team's aspiration to seal the three-match ODI series with a match to spare was dented after they suffered a thumping 108-run defeat to India in the second match on Wednesday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, reports BSS.
Having won the game, India leveled the series 1-1, making the third ODI on July 22 series deciding one. Bangladesh won the rain-hit first ODI by 40 runs.
Jemimah Rodregues put in a brilliant all-round performance to script Indians' facile victory. He hit a 78 ball-86 runs knock before claiming her career-best four wickets haul, giving away just three runs.
Thanks to Rodregues' attacking knock, India racked up 228-8 after being sent to bat first. Apart from Rodregues' knock that studded with nine fours, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur made 52.
Opener Smriti Mandhana was the other notable scorer with 36 while Harleen Deol chipped-in-with-25.
Sultana Khatun and Nahida Akter took two wickets apiece for Bangladesh women's team.
The Tigresses were all out for 120 in 35.1 overs after tasting a sensational collapse that saw them losing seven wickets for just 14 runs.
Bangladesh were reduced to 38-3 but recovered well thanks to Fargana Hoque and Ritu Moni to throw a stiff challenge to India. They combined for a 68-run partnership for the fourth wicket to keep the side on course.
But when Rodregues was introduced in to the attack, Bangladesh got it tough to rotate the scoreboard. Her disciplined bowling was key in hastening the collapse.
Devika Vaidya who snapped up 3-30, began the rot, claiming the wicket of Fargana after she made team-high 47. Rodrgeus got into act with the wicket of Ritu Moni who scored 27.
The rest of the batting line up then fell like a pack of the cards as Bangladesh tasted a huge defeat, going to the third game.
