Ashraful Hossain Alom alias Hero Alom, an independent candidate for Dhaka-17 by-election, has allegedly been attacked in Banani.
The incident took place when he went to visit Banani Bidyaniketon School and College polling centre at 3:10pm on Monday. Later, he was taken to Better Life Hospital in the capital’s Rampura.
His Chief Election Coordinator Md Ilias confirmed the matter to Jago News.
Hero Alam said he was attacked by some people at the polling centre after 3pm.
However, the voting in the by-polls began at 8 am and continued till 4 pm without any break.
Eight candidates are contesting the election.
Ruling Awami League’s candidate is Mohammad Ali Arafat, Shikder Anisur Rahman of Jatiya Party, Kazi Md Rashidul Hasan of Jaker Party, Sheikh Habibur Rahman of Trinomool BNP, Md Rezaul Islam Swapan of Bangladesh Congress and Md Akbar Hossain of Bangladesh Sangskritik Mukti Jote.
Independent candidates are Hero Alam and Md Tariqul Islam.
Dhaka-17 seat fell vacant since the death of actor Akbar Hossain Pathan, Member of Parliament from the constituency on May 15.
