A local Jubo League activist has been shot dead by rivals in Matlab Uttar upazila of Chandpur on his way to a protest rally against the death threat to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The deceased was identified as Mobarak Hossain Babu, 48, son of Abul Bepari, a resident of Bahadurpur village in the upazila, Matlab Uttar Police Station officer in-charge Md Mohiuddin confirmed.
Witnesses and Babu's elder brother Amir Hossain Kalu said the workers and supporters of Mohanpur union parishad chairman Quazi Mizan opened fire on them at Bahadurpur around 3 pm when they were going to join a rally organized by Awami League presidium member Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya protesting the death threat to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, leaving his brother Babu and several others injured.
Later, bullet-hit Babu died.
