Two get life in prison for smuggling arms

A court in Chapainawabganj has sentenced two people to life-term imprisonment for smuggling arms on a stone-laden truck.

The lifers are Alamin Khandaker, 29, from Ataul Shimul village in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna and Mojibur Rahman Dhula, 45, from Azmatpur Hudmapara village in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj.

District and Sessions Judge Md Adib Ali handed down the verdict. The court also gave them 10 years in jail separately.

The court public prosecutor (PP) Nazmul Azam Tipu confirmed the matter.

The case statement said the Rapid Action Battalion seized a truck carrying arms from in front of M/s Rakib and Brothers Filing Station at Dhoppukur village in Shibganj upazila on October 8 of 2019.

They also seized seven pistols, five shooter guns, 40 rounds of bullets and 13 magazines from the truck and detained two people from it.

Later, RAB sub-inspector (SI) Yusuf Ali Bhuiyan filed a case with Shibganj Police Station in this connection.
