26,620 tonnes of coal for Rampal power plant reaches Mongla

Chinese cargo ship “MV Zhe Hai” arrived at Mongla Port carrying 26,620 tonnes of coal for the Rampal Thermal Power Plant in Bagherhat early Saturday. From there, the ship reached Harbaria-11 no anchorage of the port’s Pasur channel and started unloading the coal.

The ship departed from Indonesia for Bangladesh on 21 May.

Confirming the matter to Jago News, Toggi Shipping and Logistics Limited’s (TSLL) Assistant Manager Khondakar Riyazul Haque, MV Zhe Hai’s local shipping agent, said the unloaded coal is being transferred to the power plant’s dedicated jetty using lighter/coaster ships.

Due to the coal crisis, the Payra thermal power plant was shut down on 5 June and the Banshkhali thermal power plant was closed on 9 June.

Earlier, a total of 30,000 metric tonnes and 30,500 metric tonnes of coal arrived at Mongla port by MV Bashundhara Impress and MV Basundhara Majesty, on May 16 and May 29, respectively.
