Light rain relieves people from scorching heat

After being boiled by scorching heat for the last two weeks, the city people have breathed a sigh of relief as most expected rain in the form of light drizzling soaked most part of the city today. 

Since morning, many areas of the country has been experiencing light to moderate rain and in the afternoon the city people experienced monsoon like weather with cloudy sky and constant moderate downpour with fall of scorching temperature. 

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) predicted that rains or thundershowers in eight divisions of the country including Dhaka in the 24-hour.

It said, trough of westerly low lies over West Bengal and adjoining area. Rain and thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty/squally wind may occur at a few places over Dhaka and Khulna divisions.

Rain may also occur at one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over Chattogram and Barishal divisions.

This summer Bangladesh experienced the hottest day in 58 years when the highest temperature in Dhaka was recorded 40.4 degrees Celsius.

As there was less humidity in the air, the heat was even more scorching.

A searing heat wave spurred the closure of primary schools this week as many students fell sick. Less production of electricity led to frequent power cuts worsening the situation.

Met office said South-west monsoon may advance up to Chattogram division and rainfall activity may increase in the next 72 hours.

Rainfall across the country contributed to drastic fall of heating temperature in all divisions making city life somehow ease. Dhaka’s lowest temperature today recorded 30.7 degrees Celsius while 27.8 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi, 28 degrees in Rangpur and 25 degrees in Chattogram division. 

Today’s minimum temperature 23.5 degrees Celsius was recorded at Kutubdia.
