Police claimed that a man was killed in a gunfight between two groups of drug peddlers at Taraf Noapara under sadar upazila on Friday early morning.The deceased was Abu Taleb, 45, of Barandipara in Jessore town. He was accused in at least a dozen of cases filed with different police stations under narcotics control act, police said.Hearing the news of gunfight between two groups of drug peddlers at a date orchard, a team of police approached the spot around 1:00am, said Jessore police officer-in-charge Ilias Hossain.Police opened fire to disperse the ‘clashing groups’ and at one stage both the groups fled the scene, he said.Ilias Hossain said they rescued bullet-wounded Taleb from the scene before he was taken to Jessore General Hospital, where physicians declared him dead.A pipe-gun and two rounds of bullet were recovered from the spot, he added.
