Three workers killed in Faridpur soil collapse

Three workers were killed and another was injured as a pile of soil from an under-construction bridge collapsed on them in Sadarpur upazila of Faridpur on Wednesday noon.

The deceased were identified as Jabed Khan, 23, Zulhas, 24, and Antor Sheikh, 22, while the injured is Nazrul Islam, 30.

Police and local sources said a portion of soil fell on some workers in Gafur Matubber Dangi village when they were doing piling works under the bridge, leaving three dead and another injured.

Later, firefighters from Sadarpur Fire Service and Civil Defence recovered three bodies and rescued a worker.

The contractor of the bridge, Imtiaz Asif, could not be reached over the phone for comment.

Sadarpur Police Station officer in-charge Subrata Golder said three workers died in a mud collapse and legal action in this regard is under process.

Sadarpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Ahsan Mahmud Russel said they visited the spot and were investigating the incident.
