30 including Khokan sued over death of 2 JCD leaders

A case has been filed against 30 people, including BNP joint secretary general Khairul Kabir Khokan, over the death of two local leaders of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) in a factional clash in Narsingdi.

His wife and BNP's self-reliant affairs secretary Shirin Sultana and Narsingdi district unit JCD president Siddiqur Rahman Nahid are among the accused.

Dead JCD leader Sadekur Rahman's brother Altaf Hossain filed the case with Sadar Model Police Station.

Police arrested three people, including the district unit Jubo Dal president Mohsin Hossain Bidyut, in the lawsuit.

The police station officer in-charge Abul Kashem confirmed the matter on Saturday afternoon.

Plaintiff Altaf said he did not name anyone in the case but police included names of 30 people in the lawsuit on suspicion of involvement in the incident.

The case statement said Narsingdi district unit Chhatra Dal's former senior joint convener Sadekur Rahman and senior vice president Mainuddin Bhuiyan had been at loggerheads with the unit JCD president Siddiqur Rahman Nahid and member secretary Rifat since the announcement of the district unit JCD's partial committee on January 26.

According to the statement, Khairul Kabir Khokan, also the district unit BNP convener, has publicly been backing Nahid and Rifat.

Since the committee declaration, those who were deprived of getting post have been protesting the committee formation led by Sadek and Mainuddin.

In continuation, they staged a demonstration procession in the district town on Thursday where the miscreants, in the direction of Khokan, shot Sadek and another named Ashraful, leaving them injured.

They were first rushed to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital and from there, sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where Sadekur died in the evening and Ashraful passed away on the following day.
