Three women were killed and 12 others injured when a truck collided with a pick-up van at Mouchak area in Bahubal upazila of Habiganj in the wee hours of Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Monjila Begum, 45, Tanjila Begum, 35 and Shahinur Begum, 45. They were the inhabitants of Gobindapur village at Hossainpur upazila in Kishoreganj.
Of the injured, six were identified as Billal Miah, Amena Khatun, Junaid Miah, Suhel Miah, Mukta Akter and Arman. They were admitted to Bahubal Upazila Health Complex and Habiganj Sadar Adhunik Hospital.
Police said, the pick-up van was going to Hazrat Shahjalal Mazar Sharif in Sylhet with 15 passengers. When the vehicle reached Mouchak area around 1:30am, it collided with the truck coming from opposite direction. Three women passengers of the pick-up were killed on the spot and 12 others injured.
Md Rakibul Islam Khan, Officer-in-charge of Bahubal Police Station, said bodies of the deceased were recovered and sent to the hospital. Legal action is under process in this regard.
