Police recovered the decomposed bodies of three friends from a jungle in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar on Wednesday, around 25 days after they had gone missing.
The deceased were identified as Mohammad Yusuf, a resident of Jalalabad Sawdagerpara area in Eidgaon upazila, Rubel of Chaufaldandi union in Sadar upazila and Imran of Nuniarchhara area in the district town.
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and two teams of police retrieved the decomposed bodies from a jungle in Damdamia this afternoon.
Families claimed the bodies were of the three friends who had been kidnapped for ransom. They said the kidnappers killed them as they could not give ransom.
Family sources said a group of robbers stopped the three people on their way to Teknaf from North Nuniarchar in the district town on April 28 and kidnapped them to a hill.
After two days, the dacoits tortured them, video-recorded the acts and demanded Tk 30 lakh ransom from their families by sending the video clip.
Later, RAB detained one in this connection, and as per information gleaned from him, the joint force conducted a drive to trace the trio.
Additional Superintendent of Cox's Bazar Police Rafiqul Islam said three decomposed bodies were recovered from a jungle in Damdamia checkpost area in Teknaf and these were being taken to Teknaf Police Station.
Dead Yusuf's brother Md Yunus said this evening that they were waiting at the police station to receive his brother's body.
Teknaf Police Station officer in-charge Md Abdul Halil could, however, not be reached for comment.
