The transport workers have called an indefinite strike in Sunamganj from May 29 protesting beating laborers and vandalizing vehicles, demanding case withdrawal and stopping extortion.
Sunamganj district bus, minibus and microbus workers union announced the strike in a press conference at Sunam New Bus Stand on Sunday afternoon.
In the press conference, the organization's general secretary Nurul Islam said they earlier in a human chain presented a three-point demand to the administration for implementation but the administration did take it into account.
Later, the workers decided to observe work abstention for an indefinite period from May 3 but at the request of the police and considering Secondary School Certificate exams, they called off the program, he said.
But the police administration did not keep commitment and that is why they called an indefinite strike from May 29.
