A 65-day ban on all forms of fishing, including Hilsa, in the Bay of Bengal began at 12am on Saturday to ensure smooth breeding of fish.
The ban will remain in effect until July 23.
The fishermen in Bhola had returned to ashore with their fishing boats from the Bay before the ban started.
In this connection, Molla Emdadullah, Bhola Fisheries Officer, said we have taken all kinds of preparation to implement the 65-day ban on fishing at sea.
“Those who will violate the ban will face legal action,” he said.
The government has enforced this annual ban on sea fishing since 2019 to increase the country's marine fishery resources. Prior to this, the ban, established in 2015, was exclusively applicable to large trawlers.
