Digital Security Act won’t be repealed: Law Minister

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Advocate Anisul Huq has said, “I want to say unequivocally that the Digital Security Act (DSA) will not be repealed. I am expecting that this act will be reformed by next September.

The minister said this at a discussion titled “shaping a future of rights” organized the by Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) on Wednesday.  

The government is working to prevent misuse of the DSA, Anisul said, adding that Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina will never take away the freedom of the press.

The minister also said, the DSA was not formulated to curb the freedom of the press. It has been made to ensure the cyber security. 

Swedish Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexandra Berg Von Linde, UNESCO’s Dhaka office in-charge Sujan Bhais, Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua, National Human Rights Commission Chairman Dr Kamal Uddin Ahmed, Dhaka University Professor Dr Gitee Ara Nasrin and Dhaka Tribune Editor Riaz Ahmed were, among others, present during this time.

TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekhruzzaman conducted the discussion.
