Awami League nominated candidate Noman Al Mahmud has won the by-election to Chattogram-8 constituency.
He, the organizing secretary of Chattogram city unit AL, bagged 67,205 votes while his nearest contender Bangladesh Islami Front candidate Sehab Uddin Muhammad Abdus Samad got 5,087.
Returning officer and regional election officer Muhammad Hasanuzzaman announced the results on Thursday night.
In the elections, around 75,305 (about 14.55 percent) out of total 5,17,651 voters cast their votes.
Earlier, the voting began at 8 am and continued until 4 pm without any break with the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
However, the seat fell vacant following lawmaker freedom fighter Moslem Uddin Ahmed died on February 5.
