Voting underway in Chattogram-8 by-polls

The balloting is underway in the by-election to Chattogram-8 constituency which fell vacant after the death of Moslem Uddin Ahmed. 

Electronic voting machines or EVMs are being used in this election. 

The voting started at 8am and will continue until 4pm without any break.

Six candidates, including Awami League’s Noman Al Mahmud are contesting the by-polls.

The other contestants are - Sehab Uddin Muhammad Abdus Samad of Bangladesh Islami Front, Syed Muhammad Farid Uddin of Islami Front, Kamal Pasha of National Peoples Party and independent candidate Romjan Ali. 

Of them, Awami League’s candidate Noman cast his vote at Ekhlachur Rahman Government Primary School polling centre in Bahaddarhat at the beginning of the voting. 

Moslem Uddin, a freedom fighter and also president of Chittagong South unit of Awami League, breathed his last at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka on February 6. He was 75.
