BNP leader Rizvi freed from jail

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has been released from jail on bail after four and a half months of detention.

He walked out of Keraniganj Central Jail in Dhaka around 4:15 pm on Tuesday, his lawyer Syed Joynul Abedin Mesbah confirmed.

A huge number of BNP leaders and activists welcomed him with flowers in front of the prison.

Mesbah said Rizvi was released today after he secured bail from different courts in all 50 cases filed against him.

Earlier on December 7 last year, police detained more than 400 BNP leaders and activists, including Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, from the party's Nayapaltan central office in capital Dhaka following a clash between police and BNP men.

Later, he was shown arrested in cases over the incident and different other lawsuits.
