Motorcycles to ply Padma Bridge from Thursday

The government has allowed the movement of motorcycles on the Padma Bridge from Thursday.

The opportunity was given at the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said this at Ganabhaban in Dhaka on Tuesday.

He said, "The instruction was given on an experimental basis. Motorbikes must ply the service lane of the main bridge."

The decision will, however, be withdrawn if rules are not followed, the minister added.

On June 26 last year, the much-awaited Padma Bridge was opened for vehicular movement.

On June 27, the government banned motorcycle movement on the bridge until further notice following a motorcycle accident on it that claimed two lives.
