Snatching of 2 militants: Main coordinator arrested

The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Friday night arrested the main coordinator of the two militants' snatching incident from Narayanganj.

The main coordinator was identified as Shikha, wife of snatched militant Abu Siddiq Sohel.

Another person, who had sheltered her, was also arrested.

Md Asaduzzaman, Additional Police Commissioner and Chief of the CTTC, said they arrested them after conducting a raid in Narayanganj.

On November 20 last year, two members of the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) sentenced to death in publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan murder case were snatched away from police custody by their cohorts at Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court premises.

The escaped convicts are Abu Siddiq Sohel from Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat and Moynul Hasan Shamim from Chhatak upazila in Sunamganj.

After the incident, Dhaka Metropolitan DB Police Chief Harun-Or-Rashid told Jago News four people riding on two motorcycles went to the court area and snatched away the two death-row convicts after spraying something in the eyes of policemen.

Later, the court Inspector Julhas filed a case against 20 named people and 7-8 unidentified people with Kotwali Police Station in the capital in this connection.
