Bangladeshi killed by BSF along Lalmonirhat border

A Bangladeshi man was shot dead and another injured by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along Patgram border in Lalmonirhat early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Rabiul Islam, 50, a resident of Kalabagan area in Burimari upazila while the injured is Shahidul, 30, son of Hedul Mia of the same area.

Local sources said four/five Bangladeshi men entered Medical Bridge area inside Indian territory near Shamsernagar border pillar.

Sensing their presence, BSF members opened fire on them, leaving one dead and another wounded.

Lieutenant Colonel AM Mahbubul Alam Khan, commanding officer of Teesta Battalion-2 of Border Guard Bangladesh-61, told Jago News that a man was shot dead and another hurt by the Indian force personnel near the border.

They were inquiring into the matter, he said, adding that details in this regard will be informed later.

Patgram Police Station officer in-charge Omar Faruque said the body was recovered from the border and brought to the police station, and the injured was sent to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital.
