UGC chairman calls on private university VCs to comply with law

University Grant Commission Chairman Professor Dr Kazi Shahidullah has called on the private university vice-chancellors to operate the institutions complying with the existing laws and rules.

He made the call in a view exchange meeting with 69 private university VCs appointed by President on Tuesday.

UGC's Private University Division arranged the meeting to ensure quality higher education and research.

Prof Shahidullah said, "You (vice-chancellors) try to operate the universities complying with the existing laws and rules and inform us in written if you face any problem."

About permanent campuses, he said legal action will be taken against those universities that are making dilly-dallying or took no initiative to go to a permanent campus despite 12 years passed since the founding of these.

He suggested opening departments and enrolling students at private universities after proper process.

The UGC chief also urged the private university VCs and trustee board to launch a system and discipline to ensure quality education there.
