Extortion case filed against JnU BCL president

An extortion case has been filed against Jagannath University (JnU) unit Bangladesh Chhatra League president Ibrahim Farazi and four others.

The four other accused are Farhad Bepari, Arshad Akash, Russel Chaklader and Tutul Bishwas.

A trader named Moshiur Rahman lodged the case in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Debdas Chandra Adhikari on Wednesday.

Accepting the statement of the accuser, the court asked the officer in-charge of Wari Police Station to investigate the allegations and submit probe report on April 16.

The case statement said accused Farhad borrowed Tk 4 lakh from Moshiur on August 25 of 2022 to run a business and promised to give its dividend to him.

After some days, Moshiur sought his money back but Farhad told him that he incurred loss in the business and will give back the money soon.

On October 5 of the same year, Farhad gave the plaintiff a life threat when he sought the money again.

Amid this, Ibrahim Farazi asked the accuser to meet him to resolve the problem.

The accused beat up Moshiur confining him in a room when he met Ibrahim at the address provided by the BCL leader.

At one stage of the beating, accused Arshad snatched an iPhone and around Tk 11,000 from at gunpoint.

The accused also snatched his motorcycle, demanded Tk 2 lakh more and threatened to kill him in a shootout if he share the incident with anyone.
