The chairman of Shibpur upazila in Narsingdi and former president of the upazila Awami League Harunur Rashid was shot by the miscreants at his residence early Saturday.
He was critically injured and admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
A tense situation was prevailing in the area after the incident.
Confirming the matter to Jago News, Feroz Talukder, Officer-in-charge of Shibpur Police Station, said police are starting operation to arrest those who involved in the firing incident.
Police said, Rashid went to a local mosque to perform Fazr prayer around 5am today. From there, he was going to his residence near the bazar in Shibpur. When he reached at the gate of his residence, three masked men riding on a motorbike fired three-round bullets on him. Later, he was first sent to Shibpur Upazila Health Complex and then to DMCH.
However, Shibpur upazila Awami League General Secretary Samsul Alam Rakhil, said Rashid was shot at the drawing room of his residence. Three people went to his residence and opened fire after talking with him.
Inspector Md Bachchu Miah, In-charge of DMCH police camp, said bullet-hit Harunur Rashid was taken to the hospital from Narsingdi. His condition is critical condition.
