The by-polls to the Chattogram-8 constituency that fell vacant following the death of Awami League lawmaker and Chattogram south district unit AL president Moslem Uddin Ahmed will be held on April 27.
Election Commission Secretary Md Jahangir Alam announced the election schedule after the 15th EC meeting at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital on Wednesday.
As per the schedule, the deadline for submission of nomination papers is March 27 while the date for scrutinising those is March 29 and the last date of withdrawal of candidature is April 5. The date for allotting the electoral symbols is April 6.
The voting in the by-election will be held in the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).
On February 5, the ruling Awami League lawmaker Moslem Uddin Ahmed passed away at a private hospital in Dhaka. Later, the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat declared the seat vacant
Moslem was elected as lawmaker on January 13, 2020 - in the vacant seat following the death of former Chattogram-8 MP Moinuddin Khan Badal.
