Killed militants belong to JMB: Police

Police suspects that the nine militants, who killed in a gunfight with the joint forces during an anti-militant drive in city’s Kalyanpur, are the members of the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Haque, who visited the scene after completion of operation ‘Storm 26’ told that these militants had similar black outfits of the Gulshan cafe attackers and they were planning to carry out big blow in the country like Gulshan attack.Though the detained person claims to be an IS member, but we think they are the members of the banned militant outfit JMB, the IGP added.Last two years IS claimed the credit for every killings though police and government turned down IS claims and echoed that there are no IS in Bangladesh. Police and ministers of the state said several times that not IS but home grown militants carried out the attacks across the country.  Earlier, nine alleged militants were killed in what police described as ‘gunfight’ during a special operation of the joint forces in Dhaka’s Kalyanpur area early this morning.SWAT, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), detectives and Dhaka police jointly carried out the one-hour operation ‘Storm 26’ from 5:51am in continuation of last night’s raid.
