The miscreants shot dead a union parishad chairman in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj on Saturday evening.
Deceased Abdul Kuddus Sarker was the former chairman of Deshigram union under the upazila and had long performed duties as the union Awami League president.
Local sources said a group of 12 to 15 people entered Abdul Kuddus's fertilizer and pesticide shop at Bhogman Charmatha Bazar around 7 pm and shot in his chest, leaving him dead.
Tarash Police Station inspector (investigation) Nur-e-Alam said they will take legal action against those involved in the incident very soon.
Deshigram union AL general secretary Nazrul Islam demanded punishment of the killers by bringing them to justice soon.
