Captain Nigar Sultana Joty became the first Bangladeshi batter to hit a half century in ICC Women's T20 World Cup but that couldn't prevent her side from suffering a eight-wicket defeat to Australia in their second game of the tournament at Gqeberha in South Africa yesterday. Despite Joty's 50 ball-57, which included seven fours and one six, Bangladesh piled up a meager 107-7, a total that Australia happily gunned down with 111-2 in 18.2 overs.
Apart from Joty, only other batter of Bangladesh to reach double digit figure was Shorna Akter who made 12.
Australia's Georgia Wareham wrecked havoc on Bangladesh, claiming 3-20 while Darcie Brown took 2-23.
Australia however made the chase a cake-walk, thanks to captain Meg Lanning who led the victory with 48 not out. Opener Alyssa Healy scored 37 to give the captain an ably support.
Bangladesh earlier in the first game, tasted a seven-wicket defeat to Sri Lanka. The Tigresses will take on New Zealand in their next match in Cape Town on Friday.
