Two people were killed and 40 others injured as a bus carrying a group of picnic-goers from Jashore overturned on the road in Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj on Thursday night.
The deceased were Bidyut Kumar Bishwas, guardian of a student of Bakri Bahumukhi School in Bagharpara of Jashore and Sudipta Bishwas, a lab assistant of the institution.
Bakri Bahumukhi School assistant teacher Bishwajit Kumar Pal said the institution's more than 200 students, teachers, its governing body members and guardians on three buses traveled in Gopalganj for picnicking on Thursday morning.
One of the vehicles overturned on the road and hit a tree in Bhatiapara area on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway at about 8:30 pm, leaving one dead on the spot and around 41 injured, he said.
Among the injured, one, later, died on the spot on the way to Jashore General Hospital, Bishwajit Kumar added.
