AL MP Moslem Uddin passes away

Awami League (AL) lawmaker from Chattogram-8 constituency and valiant freedom fighter Moslem Uddin has passed away. He was 75. 

Moslem, also the party’s Chattogram South Unit President, breathed his last at 12:38am on Monday while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital.

SM Mizanur Rahman, Publication and Publicity Secretary of Chattogram’s Boalkhali upazila AL, confirmed the dead to Jago News around 1am. 

He was suffering from cancer for a long time.  

He left behind his wife, four daughters and many well-wishers to mourn his death. 

However, Prime Minister and AL President Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Moslem Uddin.

In a message of condolence, she said, "Bangladesh Awami League has lost a dedicated leader with the demise of Moslem Uddin."

Recalling his contribution to the AL, the Prime Minister said Moslem Uddin was elected Vice President (VP) of the Government Commerce College in 1969 and joined the Liberation War at the directive of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He performed responsibilities of different posts of the Chattogram City and District Chhatra League fom 1970 to 1982, she said.

The AL President said that Moslem Uddin had shouldered responsibility of Chattogram South City AL as its General Secretary from 2005-2013 and as President from 2013 till date.

She prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
