HC orders to admit 41 twins to VNSC

The High Court on Tuesday ordered Viqarunnisa Noon School & College (VNSC) authorities to admit 41 twins in class one.

An HC division bench of Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice Mohammad Ali passed the order after holding hearing on a writ petition filed by the guardians of those twins. The court also issued a rule in this regard.

Senior advocate ABM Altaf Hossain and advocate Shafikur Rahman took part in the hearing for the writ petition, while Deputy Attorney General ABM Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar stood for the state.

"As per the guideline, the concerned admission committee should have taken steps in admitting these twins as they applied for admission in class one according to that rule. But the Education Ministry on January 16 issued a circular, saying only five percent of the total seats in each class will be available for the twins. The writ was filed challenging the legality of that circular," ABM Altaf Hossain said.

The lawyer said when those twins had filed the application for admission, the rule of five percent quota was not in action.

"So the court has stayed that rule for these 41 twins and asked the authorities to admit them in the school," he added.
