Three held for trying to traffick madrasa student to UAE

The Rapid Action Battalion has arrested three people in Chattogram for allegedly abducting a madrasa student to traffick her to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The arrestees are Abu Sufian Rana, 31, a resident of Farhadabad village and his wife Sharmin Kawser Hanna, 22, and Nuruzzaman, 55, of Chipatali village in Hathazari upazila.

RAB-7 senior assistant director (media) Md Nurul Abser confirmed the arrests to Jago News on Sunday.

He said the elite force apprehended the three alleged human traffickers from Chattogram city's Halishahar, and Hathazari upazila's Chipatali areas early Saturday.

On information gleaned from them, RAB, later, rescued the victim from a house in Nalua area of Satkania upazila, he added.

Sources in RAB-7 said the abducted student's elder sister recently got married to Md Shahidul Karim, a Bangladeshi expatriate in UAE.

After the marriage, the victim came to know that her brother-in-law is a member of a woman trafficking gang, and he also sold her sister to the Middle East country.

On January 3, she went missing while going to her madrasa.

Later, her family learned that Shahidul along with his two associates kidnapped her and were preparing to send her to UAE.

On January 23, the victim's mother lodged a case with Shah Ali Police Station in capital Dhaka in this connection.

RAB official Nurul Abser told Jago News that the arrested people in association with different syndicates had been trafficking women to UAE luring their good jobs there.
