Woman murder: Son, 6 others get death penalty

A Noakhali court has sentenced seven people including a son to death in a case filed for the murder of Nurjahan Begum, 57, at Subarnachar upazila in Noakhali.

Noakhali District and Sessions Judge Nilufer Sultana passed the order on Tuesday noon.

Advocate Gulzar Ahmed Juwel, the Public Prosecutor of the court, confirmed the matter to Jago News. 

The death-row convicts are Nurjahan’s son Humayun Kabir, 29, Md Nirob, 28, Nur Islam alias Kosai Nur, 28, Abul Kalam Mamun, 28, Md Milad Hossain Sumon, 28, Md Ismail, 35 and Md Hamid, 35. 

They all are the residents of Jahajmara village under Charjabbar union of the upazila.  

According to the statement of Humayun, they planned to kill Nurjahan over loan dispute on October 6 in 2020. They strangled her with a pillow and chopped her into five pieces. Police recovered the body pieces from different paddy fields on October 7. 

Humayun filed a case over the murder and police started investigation and found involvement of him and his six associates in the murder, said Advocate Gulzar.
