3 killed in Gaibandha road crash

Three people were killed and two others injured in a road crash on Dhaka-Rangpur highway at Choumatha intersection area in Palashbari upazila of Gaibandha on Monday morning.

The deceased were identified as Bidyut Sarker, 42, son of Badsha Miah of Merirhat village under Hossainpur union, Subhas Chandra, 35, son of Gonesh Chandra of Mirzapur village under Barishal union of Palashbari upazila and Sumon Chandra, 35, son of Subhas Chandra of Abhirampur village under Darbasta union of Gobindaganj upazila. 

According to the police and witnesses, a bus of Barkat Paribahan was going towards Rangpur from Dhaka. When the bus reached Choumatha area, it hit two motorbikes and lost control and later collided with a truck around 9:30am. At that time, five motorbike riders were injured and local people rushed them to local upazila health complex where the doctors declared three of them dead.

In this connection, Dr Md Anisur Rahman, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, said they died before being brought to the hospital.

Md Masud Rana, Officer-in-charge of Palashbari Police Station, said the bus and the truck were seized but their drivers managed to flee away from the spot.
