Sublime Shakib leads Barishal to victory against Comilla

Shakib Al Hasan led from the front as Fortune Barishal romped to a 12-run victory over Comilla Victorians for their third victory in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Saturday.

Shakib blasted a 45 ball-81 not out with eight fours and four sixes, his second fifty plus knock in the tournament and also took one wicket to single-handedly drive the side to the victory.

Thanks to his knock, Barishal racked up 177-6 after being asked to bat first and then bowled in disciplined way to restrict Comilla to 165-7. The defeat however kept Comilla winless in the tournament so far despite playing three matches.

Shakib's knock was vital in keeping Barishal on track when other batters failed to capitalize on their good start. Opener Anamul Haque again failed to convert his start being out on run-a-ball-20 while Chaturanga de Silva made 21.

Ibrahim Zadran was the other notable scorer with 27. He added 50-run with Shakib for the fourth wicket stand when Barishal appeared to be in trouble, with 72-3 in nine over. The partnership was key in helping Barishal post a good total.

Tanvir Islam was the most successful bowler for Comilla with 4-33 while Nayeem Hasan and Khushdil Shah picked up one wicket apiece.

Comilla's openers Liton Das and Pakistan recruit Mohammad Rizwan gave the side a good start but both of the batters got dismissed in disappointing fashion, giving Barishal the crucial edge.

Liton was run out for 32 off 26 while Rizwan edged a delivery to wicket-keeper after adding 18.

Thereafter they lost wickets at regular interval but Khushdil Shah still played some courageous shots to keep the side in the hunt. However, Barishal bowlers held the nerve and denied Shah to help Comilla steer to the victory. Shah was not out on 43 off 27 with one four and four sixes.
