Awami League nominated candidate and former Bangladesh Chhatra League president Mahmud Hasan Ripon has won the by-election to Gaibandha-5 (Saghata-Fulchhari) constituency.
In the results of all 145 polling centers, he bagged 82,813 votes while his nearest rival Jatiya Party's (JaPa) advocate Golam Shahid Ranzu got 46,761.
Returning officer Md Faridul Islam confirmed the matter on Wednesday night.
The voting in the by-election, which was suspended in October last year due to irregularities, was held from 8:30 pm to 4:30 pm without a break.
Parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of Deputy Speaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah on July 23 last year.
