BNP has expelled its chairperson's advisory council member Abdus Satter Bhuiyan from all party posts, two days after he had submitted a resignation letter.
The decision was taken for defying the party decision and involving himself in activities that go against discipline, the party said in a press release on Sunday night.
The decision came hours after he collected nomination paper to contest the by-election to Brahmanbaria-2 constituency, which is now vacant following his resignation from parliament recently.
Party and local sources said veteran BNP politician Abdus Satter stepped down as parliament member on December 11 in line with the party's high command's decision.
On Thursday, he resigned from all BNP posts, including its chairperson's advisory council member, to compete in the election.
The by-polls to Brahmanbaria-2 constituency will, however, be held on February 1.
