BNP Vice-Chairman and former President of Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association (BSCBA) Advocate Khandaker Mahbub Hossain has passed away.
He breathed his last at Evercare Hospital in the capital around 10:45pm on Saturday.
Advocate Muhammad Shishir Monir confirmed the death to Jago News.
Earlier on Monday, he was admitted to the hospital due to lung problem. Later, he was put on ventilation support.
Khandaker Mahbub was born on March 20, 1938. His ancestral home is in Bamna upazila of Barguna.
In 1973, he was the chief counsel of the court set up to try war criminals. He also served as President and Vice Chairman of the BSCBA. He is known as a criminal law expert in Bangladesh.
He joined BNP in 2008. From 2009 to 2016, he was an advisor to the BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia. In 2016, he got the post of vice-chairman.
In 2018, he was defeated by the Awami League candidate from the Barguna-2 constituency in the 11th National Parliament election.
