Police have arrested around 24,000 people in their 15-day special drive from December 1 to December 15 across the country. Seventy-two terrorists and militants are among the arrestees. Apart from, 286,592 yaba pills were recovered during this time.
Md Monjur Rahman, Assistant Inspector General (Media and Public Relations) of Police Headquarters (PHQ), confirmed the matter to Jago News on Monday.
He said, a total of 33,429 drives were carried out in 15 days across the country. A total of 23,968 people were arrested. Of them, 15,968 had arrest warrants against them and the remaining 8,000 were arrested on various charges. A total of 5,132 new cases were also filed against the arrested 8,000 people.
He also said, eight shooter guns, three pistols, five LMGs, eight guns, a pipe-gun and home-made arms were recovered from their possession.
Earlier on November 29, the PHQ instructed all its units to carry out countrywide raids between December 1 and 15 to ensure a smooth celebration of Victory Day, Christmas Day and Thirty-First night.
