A couple was burned to death in a fire that broke out at their flat in Konabari area of Gazipur city on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Sufian Rahman, 40, and his wife Nasrin Akhter, 36, residents of Dimla Police Station area in Nilphamari district.
Sufian worked as a mason in a contracting firm while Nasrin Akhtar worked in a local garment factory.
The fire broke out on the ground floor of the six-storey building at the house of Shukur Shikdar in Sikder Para area under Konabari Police Station in the early hours today, officer in-charge (OC) of Konabari Police Station K M Ashraf Uddin said.
Being informed, the police rushed to the spot and broke the door and saw the bodies of the wife and husband lying on the floor.
Later, their bodies were recovered and sent to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
However, the police could not confirm when and how the fire broke out.
Assistant Deputy Director of Gazipur Fire Service Abdullah Al Arifin said necessary measures will be taken after investigation.
