Planetary Health's medical olympiad with participation of 114 colleges

 

'Bangladesh Medical Olympiad-2022' is going to be held in Bangladesh for the first time in order to increase talent, thought and practice of unfettered intellect of medical students.

Some 114 medical colleges will participate in the olympiad jointly organized by Planetary Health Academia (PHA) and Platform.

Registration for the olympiad started on December 10 and it will continue until 12 noon on December 17. A total of 140 teams from 114 medical colleges have already registered.

The Directorate General of Medical Education (DGME), Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College, and the National Heart Foundation are associate partners while UniMed UniHealth Pharmaceuticals Limited is the scientific partner of the program.

The University of Central Florida College of Medicine physician Dr BM Atiquzzaman said, "I am glad to be the convener of this great endeavor. Apart from this, Platform's Dr Mohib Nirob and PHA's Dr Sharmin Abbasi are co-conveners."

He said the zonal final of the olympiad will be held online on December 17. In addition to awarding the trophy to the winning team in the final to be held at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital on December 24, they will be given air tickets to attend the Medical Olympiad in Indonesia in 2023. 

The runners-up team will receive air tickets to join the Nepal/India Medical Olympiad. Another attraction of the Bangladesh Medical Olympiad is a future carrier workshop for medical students, he added.

He said national professors Dr AK Azad Khan and Dr Brigadier (retd) Abdul Malik, Emeritus Prof Dr ABM Abdullah, Independence Award-winning physician Dr Kamrul Islam, Director General of the Directorate General of Medical Education (DGME) Dr AKM Amirul Morshed, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Principal Prof Dr ABM Maksudul Alam, Dr Nazmul Islam Munna and many more have joined Bangladesh Medical Olympiad as advisors.

Besides, PHA Chairman Dr Tasbirul Islam, and Dr Chowdhury H Ahsan, Dr Shakil Farid, Dr Naser Khan, and Omar Sharif among trustees have regularly been working for Bangladesh Medical Olympiad.

Dr BM Atiquzzaman also said Bangladesh Medical Olympiad will help increase talent, thought and practice of free intellect of medical college students.
