Clash at Nayapaltan: Over 300 BNP leaders, activists arrested

More than three hundred leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have been arrested over clash with police. Eight central leaders of the party are among them. 

Biplob Kumar Sarker, Joint Commissioner (operations) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told Jago News on Thursday morning.

He said, police will file two cases against them under the sabotage and explosives acts. Those are warranted accused will be shown arrested. The number of the cases may increase.

Many of ours members were injured in the attack by BNP. A case will also be filed in this connection, he said.

Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, a man was killed and 20 others were injured in the clash between police and BNP men in front of the party’s Nayapaltan central office in the capital.

The deceased was identified as Makbul Hossain. BNP claimed that he was an activist of the party. 

Witnesses said BNP leaders and activists started gathering in front of the party office on Wednesday morning.

The clash ensued when police lobbed tear shells and rubber bullets to remove BNP men from there.

After the clash, police recovered explosives from the party office.
