Basic Bank scam: HC directs to complete investigation by 3 months

The High Court (HC) has directed the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to complete the investigation of 61 cases filed over the Basic Bank loan scam within three months.

The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Khizir Hayat on Tuesday passed the order while rejecting the bail plea of the bank’s former officer Mohammad Ali accused in three cases of the loan scam.

The court said that ACC will have to face legal action if they fail to complete the investigation by this time.

The court also said, the investigation officer resigns if they fails to investigate properly in many countries of the world. ACC has to complete its investigation work rightly.

Advocate Abul Hossain and Md Jobaydur Rahman represented Muhammad Ali in the court and advocate Khurshid Alam Khan appeared for the ACC.

The ACC filed 56 cases with three police stations in the capital accusing more than 100 individuals, including 26 bank officials, in September 2015 while the commission filed another five cases in 2017.
