Convicts snatching case: Idi Amin put on remand

A court in Dhaka has put Idi Amin, an accused in the case over the snatching of two death-row convicts, on a four-day remand.

Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain on Sunday passed the order after a hearing.

Today the court first ordered to send him to jail after he had surrendered before the court through his lawyer and prayer for bail.

Later, it granted a four-day remand against him after police had sought 10 days to question him.

Earlier on November 23, police arrested Mehedi Hasan Omi alias Rafi, 24, another accused in the lawsuit.

On November 20, two members of the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) sentenced to death in publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan murder case were snatched from police custody by their cohorts at Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court premises.

The escaped convicts are Abu Siddiq Sohel from Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat and Moynul Hasan Shamim from Chhatak upazila in Sunamganj.

After the incident, Dhaka Metropolitan DB Police Chief Harun-Or-Rashid told Jago News four people riding on two motorcycles went to the court area and snatched away the two death-row convicts after spraying something on the eyes of policemen.

Later, a case was filed against 20 people with Kotwali Police Station in capital Dhaka in this connection.
